Ramblings

*******As I was hanging out the clothes yesterday, I got to thinking about the "homesteading" things we do around here. I came up with a lot more than I thought I would. Funny how you just do things that come normal to you and seems other people think it's some new trend.

******When we got married over twenty-six years ago, we didn't have anything, like a lot of people just starting out. We didn't go out and buy all new furniture, etc to fill our house. We had old, used furniture that we covered with sheets and blankets because they didn't match ( and , good grief, the couch was black and white plaid!)
Dewayne had found a house that needed a LOT of work the year before we were to marry. I thought he had absolutely lost his mind when he brought me to this house. Horse weeds had grown so tall around the house, they had to be 15 feet tall at least. The house had been abandoned for several years and the neighborhood kids had shooting practice at the windows. The place was horrible! But, on the plus side, it only cost $3,500 and was about six acres on the very edge of town. One close by neighbor, one across a small field, and fields behind us, street and tracks in front and actually a good location. We both were still living at home with our parents, so we knew we could get the house ready in time. Dewayne worked so hard on the property and the house. He did about 95% of the work alone. I would "help" on the weekends and family did come a few times to help with cleaning or painting. It was made liveable before the wedding. After all these years later, the house still has issues due to it's age, but it has always been home and has always been welcoming to family and friends. We've made a lot of beautiful memories in these walls.

******Over the years, a lot has changed. You get busy with the every day things and just getting through life. You raise your babies to be strong, independent men that you can be very proud of.
You make mistakes as you grow and hopefully, learn from those mistakes so you don't do them again. If I could go back in time and change anything, I know I wouldn't change anything. The past is what makes you the person you are today.
